In November 2016, B. Hicks explained the dev team was splitted into two groups: one small team of five/six people working on 0.62 and the rest going on the Beta Milestone (0.63). Very early, 0.62 update was announced as a overhaul of Chernarus’s visual fidelity which won’t affect the gameplay part (player controller or animations). The massive improvement will be making forests & environment look more real. To summarize, it includes: Trees, grass, ferns, plants, plains and roads.

The team managed to roughly double vegetation object count (~2.6 millions vegetation objects), add 8 new forest surface textures and developed a technology allowing them to randomize the variety of vegetation but also trees colorization. The update also aim for a better “feeling” as the wind and weather will have direct effect the environment. Here is a list of changes:

0.62 Update will include:

  • New tree models
  • Denser forests
  • New clutter (grass, small plants)
  • New surface textures (roads, plains and such)
  • Improved wind behavior
  • New shader for the wind, affecting trees and grass
  • Tweaked and changed lighting for the world
  • Small improvements to satellite textures
  • Many reworked locations on Chernarus
  • Reworked ghillie (to be consistent with new tech)
  • Grass render distance (not confirmed yet)
  • New Ambient Sounds
0.62 Update will NOT include:

  • Any changes to gameplay
  • Any changes to buildings and structures
  • Any changes to player model fidelity
  • Any changes to animation fidelity

  • is this in stable yet and if not when will It be? plus awesome work devs, the haters will have to swallow that pride soon. also I imagine we will be getting updates thick and fast from now on, well I hope so anyway and will we be seeing the lmg’s and awesome new items soon or will this be at beta release which I suppose makes sense all be it a bit annoying.

    After seeing what supposed to be included, im pretty shocked its not out yet. Honestly getting pretty impatient considering all this is just a visual update, don’t get me wrong it looks beautiful. But really? No changes at all to gameplay or animations or anything? If Im waiting this long I had better damn well get something out of it besides better looking graphics, maybe a new gun and a few new clothing items, anything, even bug fixes.

  • well the game looks great but zombies are still messed up imo they slide all over hell and hit you multiple times before they are even in range and they hit hard enough to ruin everything in your inventory in one shot. food seems really scarce aswell.

  • I am having major issues.. using a website with a map dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus and it shows that where are many things, food and water sources but when I get to that place.. NOTHING!!! I cannot find anything. Is this a good map?? Just trying to figure it out. Thank you!!!

  • why cant you tear a simple t shirt into rags anymore? the t shirt i’m wearing now could easily be ripped into rags why cant my character who is probably stronger than me seeing as how they can run miles without getting tired? maybe they skipped arm day because the melee is weak too. had a pristine fire ax and fought another relatively lightly geared guy with a pistol. i hit him 7 times and still didn’t kill him. he shot me 4 times in the chest and i died. please let us go to arm day too…..

  • DayZ is way more than I even expected or imagined! It is so addicting and fun! Especially the wolves they killed me like 5 times! So I avoid them lately! ha ha Best Game EVER!!! Bohemia Interactive is the best! Love Arma 3 also!!! GAME ON!!! Thanx Bohemia !!! You Rock!!!!
