It just so happens that I had the chance to visit an area in the Czech Republic on which the Arma 2 map Chernarus is based. And I made a small video to share the experience.
And special thanks to Ivan Buchta for feedback, support and ideas! 🙂

You sir, are a beast
Its very cool to see how close the height maps match up with the real world locations. If anyone has ever seen how an arma map is made a lot of the time they use real world geographical maps to match the terrain up with, then put an overlay of a road map over it to draw the “vectors” where roads will go. Its actually really cool. I can’t wait for modding support, I hope to make a map based off my hometown as a “survival training ground”. Great job working the drone though man, very steady picture, easy to see the comparison!
They need to make DayZ a lot more greener and better lighting.
it seems like there’s autumn in dayz
Almost like STALKER series based on real world places
Thats a great video, shows us all how much work has gone into making this amazing sim 🙂
excellent! plz do more like this !!
It is awesome to see a 1:1 map to the real places, but to be honest, I would prefer a fictional world which allow much more landmarks. The main map is rather monotonous, DayZ could have a much better map.
Chernarus (ArmA2/DayZ Mod) is very close to real life, Chernarus+ (DayZ Standalone) will be much more different from real life. So in the future there will be more landmarks, they just need to be added!
