So one of the interesting things about dayz is you could technically play in a way that you would never actually encounter anyone… It’d be cool if after your character died you got access to a map that highlighted everytime you came within let’s say 200m of another player!

It’d be nice structured like a recap of your in-game life, more than just a close encounters map. I mean a recap of the most important things you did (if you almost died, if you got sick, if you met friendlies or enemies, etc). But it’s something hard to be done right now for the devs, it’d be cool after beta. Also, I think it’d be better if you could access it just when you close the game, otherwise it’d be an useful source for trolls and revanges.

Yeah all that is cool too but figured start off small with just a proximity and location data. Yeah that’d be cool if you could only access if via your account somewhere else after you’ve closed the game or something. That’s why I suggested it only be able to be opened when you’re dead… by the time you’d checked it… got a respawn (which would be unlikely to take you back to where you just died) the other player should have moved really.

Why suggest something such as this…I think something like this WILL spoil the game. You wouldnt have something like this in real life now would you…plus the air of “mystery” never knowing who may have been round that corner you decided NOT to turn down in case you got ambushed…its THAT feeling that makes this game compelling…to have it ruined with something like a map of who was close to you would spoil it.

As for Argaf’s statement…well that could actyally be exploited by anyone then…by closing the game seeing where players are in that instant being shown on a “map” then jumping back in to ambush them….unfair disadvantage if you think of it in that light wouldn’t you agree.

So lets ALL agree this is not a good idea…and I am personally glad it will NEVER be adopted by the devs and implemented into the game!

Notice the title of the this section… SUGGESTIONS. You might not want something like that but I know people that would. It takes nothing away from the game. Each time you play that mystery is still there…. just when you die you get a nice little overview of your life in the game. I think it’d be a nice touch. As long as it was kept super basic and didn’t give away too much information. Maybe it doesn’t show you exact locations of players but just shows you a big radius of area where each players were (which you came within a certain distance of). I think it actually adds to the mystery.

Maybe I’ll feel differently about it when the game actually has more content in it. At the moment though I’d definitely like something like that….

For example… me and a friend found a sedan… spent almost 8 hours trying to find parts for it, before giving up… during that time up north going from town to town we saw ZERO people. IN 8 HOURS! we weren’t even avoiding people, we hunted cows, zombies all sorts of shit. Would be nice if at the end of that life we got to see if we actually were right next to some peeps the whole time.

To actually add a constructive comment, I don’t really like this idea of knowing where players are. I prefer to rely off senses not unrealistic forms of tracking and I think a feature like this would take away the core aspects of the game particularly realism.

However, it would be interesting to gain access to tracking devices that you may stick on a car to track where it’s going. That’s probably the only form of tracking players I’d want.

When you’re dead, nothing matters anymore. Giving players this ability would only encourage them to review this map then travel to the last known location of the other player effectively making it a cheat, kind of like a Call of Duty killcam. Whoever killed you worked hard to gain a tactical advantage over you and this map would ruin it for them. For instance, if you were with a squad, you would then be able to relay the players’ last known location to your friends. I think this is a terrible idea. The element of surprise and gaining those advantages are what DayZ PVP is about. In the future there will be plenty of possible indicators to give away a players’ position; accurate sound of gun fire, zombies running toward a hiding player, wildlife fleeing an area or predators approaching an area, etc. DayZ isn’t your typical FPS and it doesn’t need these cheaty elements to make it better. In fact, the more realistic DayZ gets, the better. That is its intended development plan after all.

Pretty much agree with most of what you’re saying there. I don’t think it’s in anyway like cheating though. Plus if a player kills you, you know roughly which area they killed you because… you were in that area, so if you want to go back you can already do that (I sometimes do). It wouldn’t be like a pinpoint of exactly where they are just a rough radius, just interesting to know who you came close to I think.

To be fair I came up with this after being on the game for hours on end not encountering a single person just wondering the wasteland looking for car parts, barely any zombies, no wildlife no nothing! So when the game is a bit more ‘alive’ then I think I’ll be less bothered about something like this going in. Just an idea i had really so thought i’d share.

Well rebellion if you want to keep that mystery you dont have to look but give the options to people who want to see, so you have a choice look or turn your head in the other direction and dont look..
